Please note: For the languages listed above applicants are strongly encouraged to check with African Cultural Studies (https://african.wisc.edu/) to confirm offerings for proposed language and level for the academic year. FLAS applicants (graduate students only) interested in self-instruction of a language not offered in a regular classroom setting at UW-Madison may do so through AFRICAN 670 (2cr) and 671 (4cr) (http://african.wisc.edu/content/other-languages). These applicants should offer compelling evidence of their previous experience with self-directed language learning or capacity to engage in such learning.

Center for South Asia

Please note: UW students may apply for summer languages offered through FLAS-eligible UW programs in addition to AIIS. Students who are not currently enrolled at UW-Madison or who will not be enrolled at UW-Madison by the fall semester may apply only for languages offered through FLAS-eligible UW-Madison programs.

South Asia Summer Language Institute

Please note:
SASLI does not offer FLAS funding to undergraduate students. Undergraduates may apply for a FLAS to study at SASLI through the Center for South Asia (see above) if they otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for undergraduate students. UW undergraduate and graduate students planning to attend SASLI should apply only to the Center for South Asia for FLAS funding.
